Make sure your goals are realistic and achievable and celebrate your successes along the way. Literally pat yourself on the back for achievements big and small. Go YOU!

Focus on your strengths: Instead of dwelling on your weaknesses, focus on your strengths. Think about the things you're good at and the things you enjoy doing. This can help you build confidence and feel more positive about yourself.

Practice gratitude and appreciation: When you look at all the things you’ve been through - even reluctantly, accomplished so far, and the resiliency that you’ve had to get here, there can be many things you didn’t even realize you can be grateful for within and around you. Appreciate people and situations big and small. Appreciate the teachers in your life, the lessons you have learned, and the coaches and cheerleaders along the way - even if that's just you at times.

Challenge negative thoughts: Automatic negative thoughts (ANTs) can be damaging to your self-esteem and self-confidence and easily sabotage your past and present efforts. When you catch yourself thinking negatively, challenge those thoughts. Ask yourself if they're really true and try to find evidence to the contrary. Create a new story and intentional thought record for yourself and refer to it often and regularly.

Surround yourself with supportive people: The people you surround yourself with can have a big impact on your self-esteem and self-confidence. Make an effort to spend time with people who demonstrate integrity, are positive, supportive, and nonjudgmental. Assess your family-of-choice. Invite folks in who demonstrate these qualities. Let others who do not fit these qualities to orbit out of your physical and emotional space.

Surround yourself with positive messages: Whether you have a book of affirmations, a supportive mobile phone screensaver, messages in a picture frame or on a mug, support yourself with messages that you need to hear for healing your self-esteem. You are loved. You are worthy of choosing healthy relationships. Take your time on this journey of life. Honor your heart's truest desires. Speak your truth, if only to yourself at first. You're beautiful inside and out.

Learn new skills: Learning new skills can help you build self-esteem and self-confidence. It gives you a sense of accomplishment and can help you feel more capable and confident. From gardening to dancing to rebuilding a car engine. Even taking a class to develop your professional skills. What skills light up your heart and inspire growth within? What feels uplifting and important to you?

Practice self-compassion: Be kind to yourself and treat yourself with the same compassion and understanding that you would give to a good friend. Acknowledge your mistakes and imperfections, but don't beat yourself up over them. Forgive yourself. Extend kindness and understanding to the moments of your missteps, so that you can stop tripping yourself up (literally and figuratively) and move forward with intention and confidence.

Take risks and embrace the new: Stepping out of your comfort zone and taking risks can help you build self-confidence. Embracing newness opens you up to new experiences. It doesn't have to be anything drastic - even small risks can help you feel more capable and confident. Try a new cuisine or hairstyle. Take a new route home. Talk to someone new. Shoot your shot!
